Savista is taking sustainability to the next level

At Savista we are passionate about creating environmentally sustainable developments and we are pleased to announce that our new care homes & retirement villages will be carbon neutral to build by the end of 2022.

From the first concept design of a development, our design team looks for opportunities to incorporate sustainable, low energy and innovative design solutions in order to create communities that surpass carbon targets.

With our robust innovation programme and strong sustainability credentials, we have a number of exciting new initiatives in place, including:

– Using electric vehicles, for the team and on site

– Generators driven by biofuel instead of diesel

– PV solar panels

– MHRV heating systems

– Ground heat source pumps

Kevin Shaw, CEO of Savista, comments:

“Our care homes and retirement villages will be carbon neutral to build by the end of 2022, well ahead of government targets. We are embarking on an exciting new phase of expansion for Savista, extending our site pipeline and seeking opportunities for new partnerships. Integral to this, we are ensuring that our commitment to sustainability – from our energy strategy right through to our plans to support biodiversity at our developments – is as robust as our commitment to excellent design and innovative care solutions in the later living sector.”

As well as our sustainability credentials we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment. These initiatives include:

– All timber in the building is FSC certified and Savista recycled more than 95% of waste on site.

– Insulation exceeds building regulations and natural daylight is maximised by including skylights on the top floor.

– Energy is provided by an efficient CHP boiler unit and there are charging points for electric cars.

– In the garden, the planting has been carefully chosen to attract and support wildlife.

To drive forward our sustainability and environmental plan, we are recruiting a Head of Sustainability to carry out a detailed cost/impact study and develop a robust action plan to keep the business accountable in meeting its objectives.

We are very excited about the next 12 months and can’t wait for our vision to become a reality. We look forward to sharing our progress throughout the months ahead.
